The Directory Server app is designed to cater to the requirement of having a centralized and well distributed data repository. The app is based on Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) which is widely used throughout the industry. The app portrays excellent levels of scalability allowing administrators to store data in a LDAP based Crystal Eye directory. Specialized policies can be assigned if there is a requirement to connect external applications to the CE directory. The Directory Server app provides multiple access methods allowing users to access anonymously or through user access credentials.
Left-hand Navigation Panel > System Configuration > Accounts Manager > Directory Server
The Directory Server Configuration is done in two phases. Firstly, basic settings such as providing the name of the Base Domain and secondly assigning of policies which determines whether an external application will be provided access to the Directory Server.
How to Configure the Directory Server App?
Phase I – General Settings
Step 1: In the Directory Server app page, click the Edit button under the Settings section.
Step 2: You will now see the editable version of the Settings section. Set the Base Domain as the Primary Internet Domain and click the Update button.
Phase II – Policy Settings
Step 3: Click the Edit Button under the Policies Section.
Step 4: You will now see the editable version of the Policies section. Select the Publish Policy from the dropdown.
Note: If there is a requirement of an external server to have access to the Directory Server then the Publish Policy should be enabled by selecting LAN Network or All Network. On selecting Local Network, the Directory Server will be accessible only from LAN interfaces. In this case, the data will be accessible using LDAP on port TCP 636. On the other hand, if All Networks is selected, then the Directory Server is accessible from all interfaces. Here the access is based on LDAP on port TCP 636.
Step 5: Select the way the Directory Server is to be accessed by selecting the relevant option and click the Update button.
Note: Here the access methods offered as an option are Anonymous and Password Access. The third option is to Disable Accounts Access.
